What we do

Our core business is very simple. Albacora catches tropical tuna and we do it to the highest possible standards. We fish only for the populous tropical tuna species, principally skipjack, bigeye and yellowfin, which are abundant in the global tropical oceans, as well as a small amount of albacore. We do not fish for bluefin, and other endangered species.

At all times, and in all operations, Albacora acts responsibly. We have been at the forefront of the changes in the tuna fishing industry in Europe, and have been pioneers of many technological and regulatory improvements.

Our commitment to openness and transparency

Our business is one of the most regulated, monitored and transparent in the world.

Albacora is proud of our commitment to transparency. We go further than simply complying with the rules and regulations required by our industry. Our fishing and processing techniques are verified and overseen at every single step of the supply chain. In addition, our fishing, processing and canning facilities are open to third parties and clients wishing to scrutinise how we work. We are subject to controls from flag states and coastal countries, Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and national governments in the countries of our business partners.

Since our formation, we have proactively fostered public-private sector co-operation, which has emerged over the years to develop the industry’s social and environmental obligations. Read more about how we make responsibility an everyday part of our daily work or visit the website of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation, with whom we are currently conducting a number of research projects.
